Venue Locations

The Padworth Courtyard Holiday Inn Hotel is situated on the south side of the A4, four miles west of junction 12 of the M4/A4.  Ample parking is available.



On the morning of the sale from 9.00am until 11.45am.  Otherwise by appointment.


Auction Duration

Lots will be sold in numerical order (unless otherwise stated) at a likely rate of between 80 and 150 lots per hour.



This is a guide as to what price the lot may attain based on market conditions and previous results.



Three weeks prior to the auction the catalogue may also be viewed (via the link) at where all the lots are illustrated and additional images may be found.

Buying at Historical & Collectable



Illustrated catalogues are published in paper format and on the internet three weeks prior to the auction.



The condition of pieces (other than where a number are included in the same lot) is mentioned in this catalogue and is intended as a guide to assist potential Purchasers. It remains the responsibility of the Purchaser to satisfy themselves as to the condition of each piece in any lot.



Those attending the auction should obtain a bidding number prior to viewing from the Registration Clerks. New clients must produce acceptable identification.


Absentee Bidding

Commission Bids may be submitted by post or email to the Auctioneer who will execute such bids without obligation.  At the sole discretion of the Auctioneer bidding may also be undertaken by telephone.  Live internet bidding may be undertaken at either or

Successful absentee bidders will be notified of their purchase(s) by telephone, email or post.


Buyers Premium

  • As a percentage of the hammer price on each lot:  25.00% (including VAT).

  • Purchasers who attend, pay and clear on the day:  20.00% (including VAT).

  • Purchasers who bid live on the internet platforms:  30.00% (including VAT).

Live Internet Bidding Surcharge

The total of both the buyer's premium and the internet bidding surcharge amounts to 30.00% (inclusive of value added tax) of the hammer price.


Value Added Tax

Very occasionally a lot might additionally attract VAT on the hammer price at either 20.00% (if it is being sold by a person registered for VAT) or 5.00% (if it has been imported from outside the EU). In such case this will be noted in the catalogue.



Those attending the auction in person may settle their accounts by cash (maximum equivalent of 10,000 Euros), Sterling Cheque (clients known to Historical & Collectable or debit card (non-EU registered debit cards will incur a surcharge of 5.00%). Credit cards are not accepted.


Those not attending the auction may settle their their accounts by cash (maximum equivalent of 10,000 Euros), Sterling Cheque, bank transfer (7 surcharge on amounts sent from outside the UK). Debit and credit cards are not accepted from clients who are not paying in person. (Card-holder not present transactions).


Collection and Shipping

Lots may be paid for and collected during the auction. 

The Auctioneer may pack and send small consignments and whilst every effort will be made to ensure items are properly packed and, where possible, insurance cover arranged by the service provider, no responsibility can be accepted by the Auctioneer or his agents for any loss or damage howsoever arising. Safe transit of purchases by hand, post, courier or shipper is at the sole risk of the Purchaser.
